The 14-year-old daughter of ex-MPs, Anand Mohan and Lovely Anand, convicted for inciting a mob that lynched Gopalganj DM in 1994 had no idea about the fate of her parents.
Dehradun: "My parents come and go sometimes," said Surabhi, the 14-year-old daughter of former Lok Sabha members Anand Mohan and Lovely Anand, both convicted by a Patna court for inciting a mob that lynched Gopalganj district magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994. While Anand Mohan was given death, Lovely has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Disturbed by the events, Surabhi told TOI, ‘‘I still don't know what exactly happened since I don't watch TV or read newspapers.'' A student of Class VIII at Brightland School in Dehradun, she came out for a couple of minutes to speak to TOI.
Though Surabhi said her parents had not been home here for a long time, construction workers at a house opposite Anand Mohan's said he and his wife had left just a few days ago.
‘‘Just as they were leaving, one of the children's aunts arrived here,'' said one worker. Surabhi said her two brothers - one elder and another younger - are studying at Welham Boys' School as boarders. The house was bought by her father some six years ago. Surabhi then went inside, saying, ‘‘I am waiting for my parents.'' Her maternal aunt was inside, sleeping. After that she did not come out leaving many journalists disappointed. The spacious looking house painted white and blue is in a small lane on Cross Road in Dehradun. Most neighbours are unaware of who the occupants are. One of the neighbours, however, said that when the couple was here recently, there was a stream of visitors throughout the day. A car with Uttarakhand number-plate stands outside the gate.
